The year 2020 will certainly go down in history as the year of the Corona Pandemic, but in addition to the many negative news items that occurred almost daily throughout the year, the positive developments must not be allowed to fade into the background. After all, 2020 was and is also a year of major investments and strategic decisions for the SENNEBOGEN Group. Without exception, all locations have invested and continue to invest in infrastructure, the reorganisation of processes and a pioneering orientation towards future challenges. In the following, we would like to briefly present the individual projects.
With an investment volume of around 25 million euros, the new Customer Service Center building is currently SENNEBOGEN‘s largest and most exciting construction project. Construction began in April, the official laying of the foundation stone followed in July and in the meantime the dimensions of the two office buildings, workshop halls and the ultra-modern spare parts warehouse can already be clearly seen. From May 2021, all areas relevant to customer service are to find a new home on the 87,000 m² site on the A3 highway near Steinach, just outside Straubing, with customer service, spare parts and SENNEBOGEN Vertriebs GmbH & Co KG.
The plant in Wackersdorf was opened in 1991 and has developed continuously since then. Comprehensive changes were also scheduled for 2020. In addition to the continuous renewal of the production halls, a new façade and the redesign of the outdoor facilities, a new machine shipping area and the expansion of the employee parking lots are currently under construction. The reorientation of the Multi Line with its own Plant 4 in Wackersdorf is a milestone for the production of telehandlers.
As a subsidiary, the Termelés-Logistic-Centrum (TLC) has been producing steel parts for the SENNEBOGEN machines at the Hungarian location Balantonfüred since 1996. Now, with a new, second location in Litér in north-western Hungary, the company is also investing heavily in modern production processes and plans to create around 80 jobs there in the medium term. The new plant, which is expected to cost around 3 million euros, will produce steel assemblies, robot welding, flame cutting and the painting of the assemblies from 2021. The company will thus continue its success in Hungary, where it currently employs over 500 people at two locations.
The construction of a new cold storage hall with an area of around 1,000 m² was also an important part of the introduction of synchronized production in Straubing Plant 2. After all, the required material is not only stored here before the assembly process, but also prepicked, checked and prepared.
An innovation that impresses less by its size than by its technology is the installation of a virtual welding station in our education workshop in Plant 1. By means of augmented reality equipment and welding armature, trainees can perform virtual welds on dummy workpieces for training and practice purposes as of this year. The computer-supported, virtual welding not only trains the correct handling of the equipment, but also helps to maintain a healthy posture by realistically practicing the motion sequences and process steps and provides security for later real use.
