Family company SARL GRAS owns multiple SENNEBOGEN material handlers, of which an 850 E currently load and unloads freight barges on the Seine in order to supply sand and gravel to the concrete production facilities in Paris and its suburbs. Subsequently, it will handle 45 million tons of material as part of underground work on the Grand Paris Express construction site. Current handling technology means that the 850 E can not only handle tons of material quickly on a daily basis, but can also do it whilst saving up to 30 % of operating costs using the innovation Green Hybrid energy recovery system. The principle is very simple: An energy recovery cylinder mounted on the boom in between the two hoist cylinders offsets the weight of the boom in its function, significantly reducing energy costs. This additional hydraulic cylinder stores the energy produced when the boom is lowered, in compressed gas cylinders placed in the rear of the machine. This accumulated energy is then available for the next lift. The principle can be compared to a spring being compressed and then releasing its energy when it is allowed to expand. Together with Green Efficiency, maximum energy efficiency is achieved.
