A hackathon - that means creative minds, technical expertise and teamwork under time pressure. In an intensive event, teams develop innovative software solutions for real challenges. This is exactly what 20 students were able to experience last weekend at the technology company SENNEBOGEN in Straubing.
Young talents were not only inspired by the exciting tasks of control technology, but also experienced SENNEBOGEN as a regional technology driver.
At the opening ceremony, Erich Sennebogen, shareholder of the family-owned company, emphasized how important software development and control technology are for the future of SENNEBOGEN and the entire mechanical engineering industry. The aim of the hackathon was to give participants the opportunity to test their knowledge on a real task and develop innovative solutions.
The students, who came from various universities in the region and disciplines such as computer science, mechatronics and mathematics, worked in teams to program a linear guide for a handling machine. This challenging task required technical expertise as well as creative problem-solving and collaboration. "It is impressive how many creative and innovative approaches can be developed in such a short time - especially with such a challenging task," says Thomas Heckner, Head of Control Technology at SENNEBOGEN.
At the end, the teams presented solutions that were convincing both technically and in their implementation. A highlight for the participants: after developing the solution, the groups were able to test their results live on a 30 t material handler. In addition to the exciting work on the task, there was plenty of opportunity for networking and exchange. Attractive prizes such as iPads and SENNEBOGEN machine models awaited the best teams.
With the hackathon, SENNEBOGEN shows how innovative the Straubing region can be. Young talents are given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a practical environment. At the same time, SENNEBOGEN is underlining its commitment to actively shaping the future of mechanical engineering - through digitalization, software development and modern technologies.
