Green scrap logistics: SENNEBOGEN 835 Electro in use at Flückiger

Since 1925 Flückiger AG has been known as a reliable partner for processing scrap and metal. What was still delivered by horse teams and sorted by hand in the initial years, is handled by state-of-the-art machines today. A new SENNEBOGEN 835 Electro of the current E-Series has been working at the scrapyard in Rothrist since mid-2013. For this application, the material handling machine was mounted on a rail undercarriage in the factory and thus it was possible to easily place it on the existing rail section. Powered by a 160 kW/400 V electric motor, the 835 E-series works in a manner that is particularly energy-efficient and gentle on the environment. Operating and service costs savings of up to 50% relative to a conventional diesel machine are possible. Power is supplied via a laterally attached cable drum. Thus the machine can be moved flexibly over a length of maximum 50 m.

The core task of the new SENNEBOGEN 835 is the handling and sorting of the delivered scrap materials into the storage areas, separated by type. Everyday up to 600 t of material are moved. In this process the track rail mounted at a height of 4.8 m proves its particular strength. In addition to the increased range, thanks to the mast attachment with 20 m equipment, with this concept it is not just the surrounding sorting boxes and the 1000 t scrap metal shears that can be conveniently charged. With the attached 650 l multi-shall grab, the company's own trucks can be loaded with high precision. Thus the flexible machine is the pivotal point of the logistics concept at Flückiger. In addition the elevated rail section enables effective utilization of space - even the storage area under the rail section can be used - an important criterion at the narrow site.

For the operator the rigid, elevated maXcab industry cab with armored glass windshield offers an ideal overview of the work area. The inclined windshield offers an unrestricted field of view of the sorting boxes and the 1000 t scrap metal shears. Even in poor weather the LED lighting on the stick and boom and factory-standard camera system ensure a full overview. Operators and the responsible persons at Flückiger have particular praise for the proportionally progressive control of the material handling machine. This control system permits logical, accurate, and fast work with the greatest possible comfort according to the responsible parties. The predecessor machine, a SENNEBOGEN 835 Electro of the former C-Series was already impressive in more than 20,000 operating hours, so in this case it was quickly evident that the new procurement should also come from Lower Bavaria, according to the management board. In close collaboration with the local sales partner Kuhn Schweiz it was possible to implement a custom-tailored solution for the customer.
